On March 22, 2023 the Ministry kicked off its Tourism and Wellness Secondary Schools Art Exhibition, entitled Wellness in Tourism, a View from the Classroom, with an intimate Opening Reception at the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago. The exhibition will be open to the public free of charge from March 23 to April 1, 2023, between the hours of 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. This exhibition showcases the work of 33 young artists who were selected as finalists in the Ministry’s Tourism and Wellness Secondary Schools Mixed Media Art Competition launched last November as part of Trinidad and Tobago’s Caribbean Tourism Month 2022 celebrations.
In her congratulatory remarks, Ms. Simone Thorne-Mora Quinones, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, spoke of the alignment of the Ministry’s initiatives with Vision 2030, which recognises Culture as an essential platform for national development. She added, “We at the Ministry are always imagining ways to promote the uniquely stunning talent that is inherent to our nation. This event seeks not only to promote the work of these students, but also to encourage them to enhance their skills, knowledge and techniques in the Visual Arts.”
In addition to the main exhibition, the Ministry will be hosting three accompanying events, including:
i. Artist Talk: On Saturday 25 March , 2023, from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., the featured artists as well as visitors, are invited to speak with an experienced local artist.
ii. Artist Meet and Greet: On Sunday 26 March, 2023, from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., the featured artists and visiting public are welcome to enjoy an afternoon of socialising and networking with other artists in the visual arts community.
iii. Figure Drawing: On Thursday 30 March, 2023 from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., the featured artists are invited into a private, guided drawing session.
